Sweet Dreams CGM Dock DBMineContest11

baby monitor
Cool video about baby monitor, check it out:
We made the Sweet Dreams CGM Dock in order to make nights with Ava, our type 1 diabetic daughter, less disruptive and to provide us with immediate access to her blood sugar levels at all times. Prior to the Sweet Dreams CGM Dock, we would rubberband Ava’s continuous glucose monitor to her bedside baby monitor in order to hear nighttime blood sugar alarms from other rooms in our home. Intrusive, multiple trips to Ava’s bedroom were the only way to silence CGM alarms and to examine nightly blood sugar trends. The solution? By constructing a wooden base and using parts from a garage door opener and video baby monitor, we devised a CGM dock which is a functional two-part unit that provides remote, live access to the data of a continuous glucose monitor. The system consists of: 1 – A stationary charging base that cradles a continuous glucose monitor, and accommodates an Internet protocol camera, microphone, and CGM activation system that turns on the screen. 2 – A handheld audiovisual monitor with a remote control that activates and allows access to a distant continuous glucose monitor. The Sweet Dreams CGM Dock allows caregivers to inconspicuously retrieve CGM data of a person with type 1 diabetes while he or she is sleeping. Instant access to blood sugars gives peace of mind to caregivers about the health of their loved one. The Sweet Dreams CGM Dock permits simple access to blood sugars so that down-trending blood sugars can be treated before they become lows, and highs …

Thank you for your comments. unfortunately i am training in a surgical sub-specialty and do not have the time or the financial means to bring this to market. This contest was a unique opportunity that could have helped. I made this for the sole purpose of making our lives simpler and it has certainly done that .
(cont) Don’t give up! Make a business plot (I used Business Plot Pro Premier $159) and try to demo it to potential venture capital firms specialized in the medical device area. I’m sure you’ll eventually get funded and make this product, and your dream, a reality!
This is Gil, from Pancreum. Your product is fantastic! So you know a small bit about me, in the past I’ve worked as a embedded software/electronic engineer developing the Guardian RT CGM (Medtronic MiniMed) and OmniPod/PDM (Insulet) systems. I was very surprised that you were not one of the 20 finalists. As a matter of fact, my wife (an MD who treats people with diabetes) and I thought you were going to be our top competitor. (cont)
You’ve done a wonderful job with this. I wish we had one for our 5 yr ancient daughter. I especially like being able to see the CGM on a smart phone. I do reckon (and I really hope I’m right) that there will be blue tooth connection with the Dex before too long, but who wants to wait? I also agree that some of the finalists thoughts are not quite half-baked, but I am an engineer and the contestants most likely are not. Who knows why they were chosen instead of you, but I like your design.
Unfortunately our thought was not chosen as a finalist. My wife and I were very suprised as this device has changed our lives and would be very simple to manufacture and bring to market. I have exchanged several emails with the founder of diabetesmine as i reckon that several inferior thoughts/unrealisic were chosen. If you have enough enthusiasm you could do the same. I do not have the capital to take this to market without a third partys help such as this contest. I suggest contacting DBmine.
This is an absolutely fabulous thought! Are you in the DiabetesMine Design Challenge 2011, or did someone pick up your fantastic thought for production? We have lived with the same problem of monitoring both juvenile and adult diabetics for over 2 generations as health care professionals & family members. We want to hear of any updates on your thought. Did you see Hanky Pancreas ? We reckon it is a fantastic way to help remove some of the stigma of hauling around a pump. They need a childrens line to.
Fantastic! I like the smartphone feature especially!
